Pitolindo Luvuno is a humanitarian professional with over six years of experience in social services and the humanitarian sector across Southern Africa. Currently based in Pretoria, South Africa, she is pursuing a Master’s in Social Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, building on a strong academic background that includes a joint postgraduate degree in Anthropology and Political and International Studies from Rhodes University.
Her research interests focus on disaster preparedness and response, policy development for refugee and asylum seeker care standards, child protection, and migration. Pitolindo’s recent work centres on refugee resettlement through the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) with Church World Service’s Resettlement Support Centre, where she served as Field Processing Supervisor. In this role, she led teams supporting refugee resettlement operations in close collaboration with UNHCR, IOM, government agencies, and implementing partners.
Pitolindo’s expertise includes monitoring and evaluation, risk analysis, stakeholder engagement, and capacity development. She is committed to ensuring compliance with international standards to safeguard the sustained impact of humanitarian interventions and maintain donor trust. She has led qualitative research and large-scale data initiatives, including interviewing vulnerable populations such as refugees and asylum seekers. She is also experienced in child protection and advocacy, prioritizing the safety and rights of children within humanitarian contexts.
Pitolindo brings a nuanced understanding of the intersection between policy, operational delivery, and social justice and aims to further bridge the gap between literary works and lived realities. She is dedicated to advancing effective, ethical, and accountable migration programmes along the AU-EU corridor.
